Day 13 – Songs For Bad Days

Other people might plop down some upbeat, fun music for this post but not me. I’m a bit of a masochist. I like simmering in my own gloom. I like mulling over insignificant details and conversations with an ex-boyfriend, ex-friend, or my parents. I like drowning myself in hopelessly sappy, depressing, cry-until-dehydrated songs until I’m so bummed out I just want to crawl under the covers and disappear.

I may require professional help.

Before you ship me off to Looneyville, here are my downer tunes.

1. Pieces Don’t Fit Anymore – James Morrison

This song just really gets to me. When James Morrison’s cool, raspy voice hits my ears, I crumble into a heap of tears.

This song really addresses something that most people don’t want to talk about: relationships that last longer than they should. Relationships that last a long time make us comfortable. They wrap around us like warm blankets. They make us feel safe. And we keep them on even when they get itchy because we’d rather scratch ourselves raw than feel cold.

On the flip side no one wants to be fooled that a relationship is going well when its not. If it isn’t working anymore, leave. As James Morrison sings:

“If you leave me now, just leave me now.

It’s the better thing to do.”

2. Kill – Jimmy Eat World

Flashback: freshman year in high school heartache. BEST POST BREAK UP WANT TO SHOOT YOURSELF SONG.

3. Wake Up Call – Maroon 5

Most times I’m sad. But sometimes I’m so infuriated I could punch a hole in someone’s face. When these violent tendencies take over I have to lock myself in a room and rock out to angry Maroon 5. It prevents my fist from colliding with anything, human or otherwise. So exes and the horrible people in this world should thank Maroon 5 for keeping my anger at bay and keeping their faces intact.

Readers, please don’t be afraid of me. My wrath is reserved for the true evils in this world and people who cheat. My crazy crying sessions, since 2008, have been kept behind closed doors. If you’re a decent person and we meet in public, you should be just fine.
